A11y — screen-reader-extra-info

Hi,

Listening to a screen reader, such as NVDA, and tabbing through the series in a chart using a keyboard, reads out extra unwanted info.

I could not eliminate the issue within Everviz’s settings. This may be a Highcharts issue.

  1. Open everviz
  2. Open NVDA
  3. Using keyboard, tab and arrow to Category A, Category B etc.

Screen reader reads:
Category A, 5%. One. graphic graphic Created with Highcharts 11.1.0
Category B, 20%. One. graphic graphic Created with Highcharts 11.1.0
Category C, 35%. One. graphic graphic Created with Highcharts 11.1.0
Category D, 40%. One. graphic graphic Created with Highcharts 11.1.0

Repeating “graphic graphic Created with Highcharts 11.1.0” is redundant and unnecessary.

Seems to work fine when using a mouse but not a keyboard.

Thanks!

Hi @Mark,

Do you need any further information on this topic? Just making sure it’s logged somewhere.

Thanks,
Kerry

Hi Kerry, we’re aware of both requests.

I am going to think about how to manage these requests more transparently. I want to make sure that it is both logged and easily discoverable!

A couple of observations:

  1. It only reads category A. After reading category A - with the Highcharts text (and agree, that is undesirable) - it reads the social icons. It does not read the other categories.

  2. Hovering the mouse pointer over the categories it only reads the Highcharts bit

I have reported this as a bug, ref. #1490.
